The Amir of Qatar and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong held Qatar-Singapore talks in Doha during Wong’s official visit. The meeting took place during a visit scheduled from October 18 to 20, marking Wong’s first trip to the Middle East as Singapore’s prime minister. The two leaders co-chaired the ninth Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee, the main platform for advancing cooperation between their countries. Their meeting formed part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss issues of mutual interest.
Wong travelled to Qatar at the invitation of Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. During the visit, he was also scheduled to meet Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The visit offered leaders a chance to exchange views on developments in the Middle East. Singapore’s government also identified energy security and economic resilience as areas of shared interest.
The High-Level Joint Committee gives Qatar and Singapore a formal channel for advancing cooperation. Through this platform, officials can review existing work and consider ways to move joint initiatives forward. The two countries have maintained high-level engagement, including previous discussions on bilateral relations and regional developments. However, the available official announcement did not specify agreements or new commitments resulting from this meeting.
Wong’s regional trip also included a planned official visit to the United Arab Emirates from October 20 to 22. Singapore described the Qatar and UAE visits as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with both countries. In addition, the programme aimed to support dialogue and diplomacy while leaders discussed regional developments. Wong’s delegation included Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Energy, Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng, along with other officials.
The official schedule placed the Doha meetings within a broader effort to deepen Singapore’s relations with Gulf partners. Qatar and Singapore can use their joint committee to maintain regular contact and advance areas where their interests align. The visit also brought senior leaders together at a time when regional developments remain part of diplomatic discussions. Qatar-Singapore talks therefore provided a setting for continued engagement between the two governments, although details of specific outcomes remain unconfirmed. The two sides’ next steps will depend on any follow-up announcements from their governments.
