Qatar Museums and Aga Khan Trust to Host Talk by Harvard Professor Hanif Kara

Qatar Museums, in partnership with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, will host a public lecture. The lecture will be by Harvard Professor and globally acclaimed structural engineer Hanif Kara OBE. The event, titled Marbling Excellence in Design, Construction, and Education, takes place on April 30, 2025, at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).

Qatar Museums hosts Hanif Kara as part of a new series of collaborations with the Aga Khan Trust. The initiative reflects both institutions’ commitment to promoting cross-disciplinary dialogue, creativity, and cultural enrichment.

Professor Kara will examine the dynamic relationship between architecture, engineering, and education. Drawing from his international career and academic work, he will highlight how collaboration between architects and engineers is transforming modern cities. His talk will include real-life case studies. Moreover, he will share personal insights from decades of design leadership.

Qatar Museums hosts Hanif Kara at a time when sustainable innovation is taking centre stage in the built environment. Known for his work on iconic global projects, Professor Kara has long advocated for material intelligence, creative problem-solving, and structural elegance. His approach has shaped both the practice of engineering and the teaching of design across major institutions.

“This lecture provides a rare opportunity to engage with one of the world’s leading thinkers in structural design,” said a Qatar Museums spokesperson. “Qatar Museums hosts Hanif Kara to inspire new perspectives on how engineering can support cultural, educational, and architectural ambitions.”

The lecture also aligns with MIA’s mission to foster intellectual exploration through public programming. As a leading cultural institution in the region, MIA continues to attract scholars and practitioners from around the world.
