Qatar Launches Oral Health Campaign For Elderly

A health awareness initiative in Qatar is continuing its nationwide outreach as authorities seek to improve oral healthcare among older adults and strengthen support for families and caregivers.

The “Ahlan Oral Health 2026” campaign, launched on May 31, will run until June 18, according to the Primary Health Care Corporation. Officials say the programme targets elderly residents through a series of educational and community-based activities.

The campaign includes field visits to care centres, hospitals and residential facilities, alongside home visits for older adults registered with health services. Training sessions are also being delivered to healthcare workers and family members responsible for elderly care.

Health officials say more than 1,000 practitioners attended a virtual lecture as part of the programme, highlighting the importance of integrating oral health into wider healthcare practices.

Specialists involved in the initiative emphasise that dental care plays a key role in overall wellbeing, affecting nutrition, communication and quality of life. They warn that neglecting oral hygiene can contribute to broader health complications in older age.

The campaign also focuses on common age-related dental issues such as gum disease, dry mouth linked to medication, and difficulties in maintaining dentures or natural teeth.

Families are being encouraged to support daily oral hygiene routines and to watch for warning signs such as changes in appetite, chewing difficulties, or discomfort that may require medical attention.

Organisers say the initiative reflects a wider effort to promote healthy ageing, while reinforcing the role of community and family support in safeguarding the wellbeing of older generations in Qatar.
