The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) launched the 50th Arab Deaf Week on Tuesday. The theme was “The Value of Using Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Qualifying the Deaf”. The event took place at the Audio Education Complex in Doha. It was attended by Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, senior ministry officials, educators, and families of deaf students.
The week-long initiative aims to raise awareness about the rights of the deaf community. It emphasizes their role in national development and promotes their integration into a fair, technologically advanced, and inclusive educational system. Organizers say the event underscores Qatar’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for individuals with hearing impairments.
As part of the opening activities, a technology exhibition showcased student-led projects. These projects utilized artificial intelligence to enhance educational accessibility and communication for the deaf. These innovations aim to improve self-reliance and active participation in social and economic life.
Several national institutions took part in the exhibition. These included the Ministry of Interior’s National Command Center, which presented emergency services tailored for the deaf. IslamWeb for the Deaf and Ali Bin Ali Medical demonstrated cochlear implant technologies.
Participating schools from across Qatar included Doha Secondary School for Boys, Omar Bin Al Khattab Preparatory School, Al Maha Academy, and Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School.
Throughout the week, the MoEHE will host a range of workshops, educational sessions, and cultural activities. These aim to showcase the creative and intellectual abilities of deaf students across various disciplines—including arts, sports, and technology.
This initiative reflects Qatar’s broader efforts to support inclusive education, foster innovation in special education, and integrate individuals with disabilities into all aspects of national development.
