In a collaborative effort to raise awareness and encourage healthier lifestyles among young people living with diabetes, Diabetes Qatar, in partnership with the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and Qatar University, organized the inaugural Diabetes Race for youth.
The event was held on April 17 at Qatar University’s campus and welcomed participants between the ages of 12 and 18. The race featured three separate categories based on age groups—12-14, 15-16, and 17-18. This approach ensured balanced and fair competition.
The initiative aimed to create a supportive and engaging environment for young people managing diabetes. It promoted physical activity, psychological well-being, and peer connection. Organizers emphasized the importance of community support in fostering positive habits and long-term health outcomes.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Hamaq, Executive Director of Diabetes Qatar, said the event was part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to support people living with diabetes through educational and social initiatives. “We aim to empower youth with the knowledge and confidence to manage their condition and lead healthy, active lives,” he stated.
Abdulla Yousef Al-Mulla, Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, highlighted the event’s alignment with broader goals of encouraging wellness through sports. “This race promotes community, movement, and motivation—key ingredients for a healthier future,” he said.
Qatar University’s Sports Affairs Department also expressed pride in hosting the event. They noted that it reflects the university’s mission to support public health and community-focused initiatives.
The success of the race marks a promising start for future programs aimed at engaging youth in health-focused activities and education.
