Doha, Qatar – Qatar marks its 2025 National Sport Day today with a wide range of fitness and sporting activities under the theme “Never Too Late.” The annual celebration encourages people of all ages to embrace an active lifestyle. This reinforces the country’s commitment to health and well-being.
As one of the few nations to designate a public holiday for sports, Qatar has observed National Sport Day on the second Tuesday of February since 2012. Over the years, the event has grown significantly. This year, it features an extensive lineup of activities organized by ministries, sports federations, and private entities across the country.
Events are taking place in Doha, Lusail, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, and Al Khor. There are also additional activations at Sealine. The Ministry of Municipality has prepared Qatar’s beaches to accommodate visitors. They offer sports fields, play zones for children, and green spaces to enhance the experience.
Major Highlights
A key attraction of this year’s celebration is the inaugural Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Half Marathon 2025at Lusail Boulevard. The event will bring together professional athletes and amateur runners from over 100 nationalities. The marathon features four race categories:
- Half Marathon (21 km) – 6:00 AM
- 10 km Race – 7:00 AM
- 5 km Run – 7:30 AM
- 1 km Fun Run – 8:30 AM
Salah Al Saadi, QOC Assistant Director of the Sport Events Department, emphasized the significance of hosting the event at Lusail Boulevard. This site witnessed the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final.
Meanwhile, Qatar Foundation is organizing multiple sporting activities, including the Education City Run. These activities feature races for adults and children across distances of 10 km, 5 km, 3 km, and 800 meters.
Additionally, the Old Doha Port will host public sports activations. These include open-water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding. Furthermore, there will be interactive fitness and sustainability workshops in collaboration with national organizations.
With hundreds of activities scheduled across the country, Qatar’s National Sport Day continues to promote a culture of fitness and well-being. This reinforces the nation’s dedication to a healthier and more active society.
