Qatar has welcomed Syria’s ratification of the Constitutional Declaration, calling it a significant step toward stability. The government expressed hope that this historic move would lay the groundwork for a smooth transition and help build a nation based on justice, institutions, and freedom.
In an official statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of the declaration. It emphasized key provisions such as the separation of powers, the creation of a committee to draft a permanent constitution, and the advancement of transitional justice. The ministry also underscored the protection of rights and freedoms for all Syrians, along with a commitment to national unity.
Qatar stressed the importance of local, regional, and international cooperation in ensuring Syria’s progress. The ministry urged all parties to support stability and work towards lasting peace in the country.
Reaffirming its position, Qatar expressed full backing for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. It also reiterated its support for the aspirations of the Syrian people, emphasizing their right to freedom, development, and prosperity.
The ratification follows a major shift in Syria’s political landscape. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa signed the temporary constitution, which will guide the country through a five-year transitional period. His forces took control three months ago in a swift offensive that led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
As he signed the document on Thursday, Al-Sharaa described it as a turning point for Syria. “We are beginning a new history, replacing oppression with justice,” he said, reinforcing the commitment to change.
Qatar remains engaged in supporting Syria’s transition, advocating for reforms that ensure stability, justice, and a better future for its people.
