Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to global child welfare by signing a supplementary agreement with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The agreement is an extension of the existing basic agreement between the two entities. It was signed at the headquarters of Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The signing ceremony was attended by HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF.
HE Sheikha Alya emphasized that the agreement highlights Qatar’s dedication to international efforts aimed at protecting children and upholding their rights. She reiterated that the collaboration with UNICEF is a fundamental component of Qatar’s broader strategy. This strategy aims to achieve sustainable development.
UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell, expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued support of initiatives that enhance the lives of children worldwide. She noted that the agreement will further strengthen UNICEF’s operations and maximize the positive impact on children in vulnerable communities.
