Doha, Qatar – The State of Qatar, adhering to its commitment to principled diplomacy, has firmly rejected the recent inflammatory statements made by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, criticized the remarks. He stated they lack political and moral responsibility.
Dr. Al Ansari said the Israeli narrative attempts to justify aggression in Gaza under the guise of “civilization.” He likened this to historical regimes that used false narratives to commit crimes against civilians. “This is a dangerous distortion,” he stated, warning against normalizing the suffering of innocent people.
Since the start of the conflict, Qatar has worked with international partners to end hostilities, protect civilians, and facilitate hostage releases. Dr. Al Ansari questioned whether over 138 hostages were freed through military action. Alternatively, he asked if they were freed through the very mediation efforts now under attack. This underscores Qatar’s role in promoting peace through principled diplomacy.
He also highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, pointing to widespread starvation, medical shortages, and the politicization of aid. “Is this the civilization being defended?” he asked.
Dr. Al Ansari reaffirmed that Qatar’s principled diplomacy aligns with its commitment to international law. He condemned efforts to distort Qatar’s mediation efforts. Furthermore, he stated that political pressure would not change the country’s stance on civilian protection and justice.
He emphasized Qatar’s continued cooperation with Egypt and the U.S. to achieve an immediate ceasefire. They also aim to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need. He concluded by stating that peace will remain impossible without a just settlement. This settlement should end the occupation and grant Palestinians their full rights. These include a sovereign state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
