Oncology Rehabilitation Framework Empowers Cancer Survivors in Qatar

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched its first Oncology Rehabilitation Framework, marking a major step forward for cancer care in Qatar. This new program aims to improve life quality for people living with cancer.

Cancer rates continue to rise in Qatar. Meanwhile, survivorship numbers are growing, making this national initiative crucial. The Oncology Rehabilitation Framework grew from strong teamwork between the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI) and the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

Moreover, this framework helps patients face physical, mental, and social challenges throughout their cancer journey. It pushes patients beyond survival so they can live a full and meaningful life.

Additionally, HMC designed the Oncology Rehabilitation Framework using global evidence and best practices. The team adapted World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines to fit Qatar’s healthcare system and cultural values.

Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, Deputy Chief of Rehabilitation and Lead of Rehabilitation Therapy Services at HMC, highlighted the importance of this shift. She said, “We want patients to live with dignity and independence, not just survive. This project matches the National Health Strategy 2024–2030, which treats rehabilitation as a vital part of care.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohamed Salem Al-Hassan, CEO and Medical Director of NCCCR, shared his excitement. He explained, “We are moving into a new chapter for cancer services. Survivorship now needs strong, team-based support. The Oncology Rehabilitation Framework offers clear guidance for every step.”

Furthermore, this framework matches HMC’s vision for high-quality, joined-up care. It also supports Qatar’s National Health Strategy 2024–2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting health and system strength.

Globally, this program aligns with WHO’s Rehabilitation 2030 Call for Action. It supports fair, patient-focused care and makes rehabilitation a core part of health services.

Qatar shows strong commitment to helping cancer patients thrive. The Oncology Rehabilitation Framework pushes patients to regain independence, rebuild their lives, and enjoy better quality beyond their diagnosis.
