Omani ID Card Validity Extended

The Omani ID card will now remain valid for 10 years instead of five, marking a major change for citizens. The Royal Oman Police announced the extension, aligning the card’s validity with that of the Omani passport. This decision will benefit citizens by reducing renewal frequency and easing administrative burdens.

Lieutenant General, Inspector General of Police and Customs, issued the directive to bring this change into effect. Authorities explained that extending the Omani ID card validity will save time and effort for both citizens and government offices. It will also help streamline public service processes across the country.

Previously, citizens had to renew their ID cards every five years, often facing long queues and wait times. Now, the longer validity will give residents more convenience and flexibility in managing official documents. This will also allow administrative offices to focus resources on other essential services.

The Royal Oman Police emphasized that the decision reflects a commitment to efficiency and modernization. It supports ongoing digital transformation efforts in Oman’s public sector. Additionally, it aims to improve the overall experience for citizens in accessing government services.

Extending the Omani ID card validity is also expected to reduce processing costs for the government. Fewer renewals mean less demand for printing, verification, and administrative support. This could lead to better allocation of resources toward security upgrades and other vital projects.

Authorities have assured the public that security features on the Omani ID card will remain robust and up-to-date. Advanced technology will ensure the card continues to serve as a secure form of identification throughout its extended validity period.

In the coming months, citizens will be informed about updated renewal procedures. The Royal Oman Police will also launch awareness campaigns to explain the benefits of the extended validity.

By matching the Omani ID card’s validity with the passport, the government aims to offer a more consistent and user-friendly experience. This move demonstrates Oman’s dedication to improving public services and supporting its citizens’ needs in a rapidly changing world.
