Oman Mining Growth Drives Mineral Output Past 5.5 Million Tonnes

The mining sector in Al Buraimi Governorate experienced significant expansion during 2025. Officials reported that total mineral production surpassed 5.59 million tonnes across active local sites. Eng. Salim Khamis Al Sudairi confirmed that twenty-one licensed quarries generated these impressive volumes. This surge highlights Oman mining growth as a key pillar for national economic diversification.

Building materials led overall output by contributing over 4.67 million tonnes during the year. Limestone extraction generated more than 859,000 tonnes to secure second place among local minerals. Meanwhile, miners extracted 33,800 tonnes of chrome ore alongside smaller quantities of clay and marble. Local operations also yielded nearly 3,900 tonnes of gypsum for ongoing development projects.

Strategic geographic advantages positioning the governorate near major borders significantly accelerated these supply deliveries. Furthermore, local suppliers provided crucial raw materials for the upcoming Oman and UAE rail line. Regional teams simultaneously supported internal road networks alongside major gas, water, and power grids. Consequently, seamless transport links continuously reinforced regional development targets and infrastructure initiatives.

Ministry authorities recently awarded two exploration concessions while preparing a third site for operations. Moreover, officials restricted exports of low-grade chrome ore to preserve national resource values. Investors now access new mineral opportunities through the digital Taqa platform’s bidding system. Therefore, transparent dynamic mechanisms ensure fair corporate competition for copper and industrial raw materials.

Inspectors conducted ninety-six field visits throughout 2025 to verify environmental compliance and limit emissions. Operating companies must strictly submit site rehabilitation plans along with mandatory financial performance guarantees. Furthermore, officials actively encourage mining firms to hire local residents for technical and managerial roles. In addition, small businesses regularly receive transport and maintenance contracts from regional site operators.

Smart supervision tools continuously advance resource sustainability across all active mining sectors. Digital transformation initiatives now streamline administrative procedures for every regional extraction enterprise. Ultimately, local achievements continue to showcase Oman mining growth through expanded industrial capacity and infrastructure support.
