Oman Issues Severe Weather Alert as Thunderstorms and Flash Floods Threaten Multiple Governorates

The Oman weather alert raised concern on Wednesday. Authorities warned about heavy thunderstorms and flash floods across several governorates. They said the weather system will intensify during the day. It may disrupt movement and increase safety risks in low areas.

In Oman, meteorologists said storms will start in the north. Later, the system will move toward central and coastal regions. It will first hit Musandam, Al Buraimi, and North Al Batinah. Then it will affect Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will likely continue in these areas.

As conditions develop, Muscat and South Al Batinah will also face storms. In addition, North and South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta will see worsening weather. Officials classified the situation as moderate to high risk. The Oman weather alert stressed the danger of flash floods in wadis.

Thunderstorms may bring hail in some areas. They may also cause sudden and heavy rainfall. Water levels in valleys can rise quickly. Strong downdraft winds may also hit the country. Wind speeds may reach 50 knots. These winds can reduce visibility and disrupt travel.

Dhofar Governorate will face lighter conditions. Authorities expect only isolated rain there. Occasional thunderstorms may still develop. However, the overall impact remains low in that region.

The Civil Aviation Authority urged people to stay cautious. It advised residents to avoid crossing wadis during rain. It also warned against entering flood-prone areas. In addition, it advised against sailing during the alert period.

Emergency teams remain on standby across the country. Authorities coordinate with national warning centers. They continue to monitor the situation closely. They also issue updates as conditions change.

The Oman weather alert highlights serious risks from unstable weather. Officials urged residents to follow safety instructions. They also asked people to rely on official updates only.
