Oman’s social protection system now provides social security pensions to more than 100,000 citizens. The Ministry of Social Development presented these achievements during a media briefing titled “Empowerment That Makes an Impact.” Officials shared updates on programs, strategic plans, and future initiatives to enhance social services.
Minister of Social Development Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar said Oman transformed its social protection system to better support citizens. The ministry has distributed OMR178 million in pensions and continues to assess families for the Family Income Support benefit to ensure fair coverage.
The ministry launched initiatives to strengthen social welfare across the country. It established marriage funds in several governorates and issued regulations for premarital medical exams. Construction began on an Autism Spectrum Disorder Care and Rehabilitation Center with OMR7 million allocated. Officials also enforced the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law and created a new undersecretary sector to supervise specialized services for persons with disabilities.
Programs now focus on youth and talent development. The second cohort of the “Be With Us for Them” initiative graduated 60 participants, 39 of whom entered the labor market. The “Mawhoob” program trained 11 participants in tourism, helping five secure employment. Protected production workshops in Salalah, Al Mudhaibi, Nizwa, and A’Rustaq now support 163 people, fostering economic independence and creative skills.
Early childhood care also expanded. Oman added 32 new nurseries, totaling 364 facilities for 9,548 children. The ministry introduced the “Child Protection Guide” and the “National Guide for Foster Family Child Care” to ensure safer environments for children. Home-based projects and productive family programs supported 1,577 families with financial aid, marketing opportunities, and training.
Through these initiatives, Oman demonstrates its dedication to citizens’ welfare and social stability. The social protection system now strengthens quality of life, supports vulnerable groups, and fosters inclusive development and economic growth.
