Oman Elevates National Search and Rescue Team Through International Evaluation

Oman has launched a major international evaluation to strengthen the classification of its National Search and Rescue Team. This key initiative aims to ensure the team meets the highest standards of operational readiness and effectiveness. Enhancing national search and rescue capabilities remains central to Oman’s commitment to public safety and disaster response.

The evaluation events, held at the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) headquarters, began under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health. During the opening ceremony, attendees watched a documentary showing the Authority’s history, achievements, and ongoing dedication to emergency response. Additionally, a special film showcased the Search and Rescue Team’s field operations, focused on its efficiency and professionalism.

The team’s international participation was also highlighted. Notably, it contributed to relief efforts during the Nepal earthquake in 2015 and the Türkiye earthquake in 2023. Such experiences demonstrate the team’s adherence to international standards and its readiness to assist both locally and abroad.

During the evaluation, participants toured the Authority’s laboratories and classrooms. They also reviewed the latest specialized equipment, which strengthens the team’s ability to respond to emergencies effectively. Furthermore, the launch of vehicles dedicated to hazardous materials incidents showcased Oman’s advanced preparedness. Each step reinforced the Authority’s commitment to developing national emergency systems to meet global benchmarks.

Officials stressed that enhancing national search and rescue capabilities requires continuous training, international collaboration, and investment in cutting-edge technology. Consequently, the evaluation aims to certify the team at the heavy-level classification, a distinction reflecting top-tier readiness.

The initiative also underlined the importance of integrating national and international best practices in emergency response. By applying lessons learned from past disasters, the team ensures swift, effective action during crises. Moreover, it strengthens public confidence in Oman’s ability to handle emergencies efficiently.

Through this international evaluation, Oman demonstrates its ongoing dedication to enhancing national search and rescue systems. The program not only improves operational capabilities but also positions Oman as a regional leader in emergency preparedness and disaster response.
