The Sultanate of Oman has announced a transformative road infrastructure project that will significantly upgrade connectivity between Nizwa and Bahla. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology released details following the official tender by the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority.
According to the ministry, the project involves doubling the existing carriageway from Daris Roundabout in Nizwa to the Jabrin area in Bahla. This key development, located in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, will cover a total distance of 40 kilometers.
Importantly, the road infrastructure project includes substantial new features. Authorities confirmed the installation of two traffic signals near Bahla Souq to manage congestion. In addition, the plan incorporates 10 new roundabouts positioned at strategic intervals along the route.
To further improve accessibility, several pedestrian and vehicle tunnels will be constructed. These will be located in high-traffic commercial zones to improve safety and reduce delays. Moreover, the ministry emphasized that engineers designed the new road to remain functional in all weather conditions.
As part of its broader transportation strategy, Oman aims to use this project to address multiple concerns. Officials expect smoother traffic flow, reduced road accidents, and strengthened links between local communities. Furthermore, officials anticipate the new route will promote economic growth by improving access for both businesses and tourists.
This road infrastructure project reflects a continued commitment by the government to invest in long-term connectivity and safety. It aligns with the country’s goals to foster development in less urbanized regions while also encouraging domestic and international tourism.
The ministry underscored that the enhancements will create a more efficient, safe, and scenic passage through one of Oman’s most culturally rich areas. Additionally, it called the project a step forward in meeting national goals for infrastructure modernization and regional integration.
The initiative links the historical centers of Nizwa and Bahla to bring lasting benefits to residents, commuters, and travelers.
