A new national health initiative has been launched by the Qatar Society of Ophthalmology (QSO) in partnership with the uveitis team at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The goal is to improve specialised diagnosis and treatment of uveitis in the country. The programme, titled “Uveitis for All,” aims to advance early and accurate care for this complex inflammatory eye condition. This condition can lead to severe vision loss if left untreated.
The initiative will be formally introduced at QSO’s first-ever symposium on uveitis. This is a major scientific gathering dedicated to elevating the standard of care and research around the disease. The symposium, organised under the umbrella of the Qatar Doctors Association, brings together multidisciplinary expertise. This includes infectious disease specialists, endocrinologists, internists, and other relevant healthcare professionals.
HMC’s ophthalmology team, along with specialists from various medical disciplines, will play a key role in implementing the project. This project is being led by a distinguished group of ophthalmologists in Qatar. They aim to create a unified, evidence-based approach to treating uveitis.
The event will also feature a keynote address by Professor Vishali Gupta, who serves as the Chair of the International Uveitis Study Group and is recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on the condition. In addition, the symposium is set to highlight the importance of accessible, standardized care. Moreover, it will foster collaboration among experts in infectious diseases, rheumatology, and other related fields. By bringing together leading voices in these disciplines, the event aims to drive forward best practices and innovative approaches to patient care.
