Muscat Launches Green Walkway Project in South Al Maabelah

Muscat Municipality celebrated the launch of the Green Walkway project in South Al Maabelah, located in the Wilayat of Seeb. The event, held last Wednesday, was under the patronage of His Excellency Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, and Mr. Stephen L. Lover, President and General Manager of Occidental Oman, were also in attendance. Several officials from both the public and private sectors participated in the event.

The Green Walkway project spans an area of over 152,000 square meters. It has been implemented in collaboration with Occidental Oman as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. This project includes a variety of integrated facilities, each designed to cater to the diverse needs of the community.

One of the key components of the Green Walkway project is a dedicated sports walkway and a bicycle track, both stretching 3,400 meters. In addition, the project features pedestrian overpasses to ensure ease of movement. The site also provides designated play areas for children, fitness equipment, multipurpose sports courts, and even a skateboarding area, making it a prime location for individuals and families looking for recreational activities.

Moreover, the Green Walkway project includes expansive green spaces, modern lighting, restaurants, cafes, and rest areas. Visitors can also enjoy food trucks stationed in designated areas throughout the site. These features aim to create a comprehensive recreational environment that fosters public health, sustainability, and community well-being.

Commenting on the launch, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Hamidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, stated: “The Green Walkway project reflects our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Muscat. It aligns with the governorate’s development goals by combining sustainability, recreation, and public health. It also adds significant aesthetic value to the area, providing an ideal space for sports and leisure activities.”

Stephen L. Lover, President and General Manager of Occidental Oman, expressed pride in the collaboration. He said, “This Green Walkway project serves as a model for sustainable development, focusing on environmental conservation and urban growth. Through this partnership, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit the community and align with Oman Vision 2040.”

The Green Walkway project is part of Muscat Municipality’s ongoing efforts to achieve a sustainable, thriving, and vibrant Muscat. By working with stakeholders, the municipality continues to implement high-quality projects that meet the needs of the community. These projects contribute to the region’s tourism growth, development, and overall quality of life.
