Musandam Discovery Diving Centre Puts Oman on Global Marine Tourism Map

The Musandam Discovery Diving Centre has transformed Oman into a rising destination for international diving tourism. From the beginning, the Musandam Discovery Diving Centre aimed to combine adventure with marine conservation. Moreover, it has attracted diving enthusiasts from across the globe, showcasing Oman’s unique fjords, coral reefs, and marine biodiversity. As a result, Musandam has become a hub for tourists seeking unforgettable underwater experiences.

Founded in 2015 by Badr Mohammed Al Shehhi, the centre grew from a personal passion for the sea. Al Shehhi trained at a German-affiliated diving centre in Khasab and earned a PADI instructor license before establishing his own centre. Today, the centre offers daily trips to more than 30 diving sites. It also provides training courses, Discover Scuba Diving programs for beginners, and guided snorkeling trips.

The centre plays a vital role in protecting marine life. It supports the Musandam Diving Team, a volunteer group conducting regular seabed cleanups and coral cultivation projects. Divers receive training in buoyancy techniques to avoid damaging fragile coral reefs. This focus on conservation enhances the tourist experience while maintaining a sustainable marine environment.

Tourists are captivated by Musandam’s clear waters, rich marine life, and healthy coral reefs. Many visitors spend an entire week diving daily across the region, exploring its dramatic fjords and vibrant underwater ecosystems. Al Shehhi highlighted that this growing interest is also reflected in international recognition. The centre became the first Omani company to participate in the Boot Düsseldorf boat and water sports show in Germany. It also helped organize the first Musandam International Diving Festival in partnership with the governorate’s office.

Looking forward, the Musandam Discovery Diving Centre plans to introduce new marine activities by next summer. Al Shehhi encouraged young Omanis to pursue marine tourism careers, stressing that creativity and unique ideas are essential for success. With its continued expansion, the centre aims to cement Musandam’s position on the global diving map.

Ultimately, the Musandam Discovery Diving Centre has proven that Oman’s waters can support both tourism and conservation. The Musandam Discovery Diving Centre continues to set a standard for innovation, education, and adventure, offering visitors an extraordinary blend of natural beauty and responsible exploration.
