The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), through its Mosques Department, has officially opened a new mosque in Maamoura, marking another milestone in Qatar’s ongoing religious infrastructure development.
Named the Sheikh Abdullah bin Thani bin Jassim Al-Thani and Sheikha Sheikha bint Khalid bin Ahmed Al Ahmad Al-Thani Mosque, the project was endowed by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Thani bin Jassim Al-Thani in memory of his late parents.
The new mosque in Maamoura reflects the Ministry’s strategic goal to expand the country’s mosque network in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The initiative supports Qatar’s urban development and accommodates its growing population.
Spanning 1,933 square meters, the mosque can host up to 891 worshippers. It includes a main prayer hall for 841 men and a separate section for 50 women. Designed with accessibility in mind, the mosque features public parking with reserved spaces for people with disabilities, a spacious ablution facility, and user-friendly entrances and exits.
A tall, elegant minaret anchors the mosque architecturally, while an on-site residence for the imam ensures consistent religious leadership and community support.
The Engineering Affairs Department at Awqaf played a central role in the planning, construction, and delivery of the mosque. The department also manages maintenance, technical compliance, and updates a detailed database on mosque facilities and personnel.
The new mosque in Maamoura joins a growing list of recently completed religious structures aimed at enhancing worship experiences and community engagement throughout Qatar.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to providing safe, modern, and accessible places of worship. The new mosque in Maamoura stands as both a spiritual center and a tribute to enduring values of faith, remembrance, and public service.
