As temperatures rise in Kuwait, the country’s electricity demand has surged past 8,000 MW, signaling the start of a trend that is expected to peak during the hot summer months.
For the past few months, electricity demand had remained steady at around 7,000 MW. However, as temperatures climbed to 30°C, consumption spiked. The increased use of air conditioning, which accounts for approximately 70% of the country’s power consumption, is driving the rise in demand. The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has been operating at full capacity to ensure the timely completion of maintenance work on power generation and water distillation units before the summer season begins.
According to sources from the Ministry, the electricity load index has begun to rise, with record-breaking figures expected during the peak summer months. They revealed that maintenance work on key production units is progressing as planned, with over 50% of the required maintenance already completed. The Ministry aims to ensure all maintenance work is finished without delays to meet the country’s energy needs.
Looking ahead to the summer, electricity production is anticipated to peak at 18,600 MW. The ministry has prioritized maintenance while carefully managing power outages to maintain sufficient capacity for the country’s electricity and water needs.
The rising demand for electricity due to air conditioning use is a clear indicator of the challenges the country will face during the upcoming summer. The Ministry is working tirelessly to ensure that the grid remains reliable and that there is enough power to meet the expected increase in consumption.
