The new traffic law in Kuwait has significantly reduced accidents, deaths, and violations in the first half of 2025. Officials credit the sharp decline to stricter penalties and better enforcement.
According to the traffic awareness department, accidents fell 45 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Only 1,383 incidents were recorded in the first six months of 2025, down from 2,511 last year. This marks a major improvement in road safety.
The law came into effect on April 22, yet its positive influence was clear almost immediately. By the end of June, the results were striking.
Deaths dropped 34 percent in the first half of the year. Authorities reported 94 fatalities, compared to 143 in the same period of 2024. Even more notable, the impact was stronger after full enforcement began.
In May 2025, fatalities fell by half to 11, compared to 22 in May 2024. In June, deaths dropped 75 percent to just five cases, compared to 20 last year. This shows how rapidly the new rules have changed driver behavior.
Traffic offenses also fell sharply. In the first six months, authorities recorded 1.66 million offenses, down from 1.97 million in 2024. The steepest decline occurred in May and June, when the new traffic law in Kuwait was fully active.
In May, traffic cameras caught 126,000 violations, a 59 percent drop from 308,000 in May last year. In June, violations fell 53 percent to 164,000, compared to 349,000 the year before. These numbers highlight the strong deterrent effect of the law.
The legislation significantly increased fines and penalties for dangerous behavior. Offenses such as running red lights, speeding, and failing to wear seatbelts now carry much heavier consequences. This strict approach has clearly influenced driver habits across the country.
Overall, the new traffic law in Kuwait has delivered measurable safety improvements in just a few months. Officials believe continued enforcement will lead to even greater reductions in accidents and fatalities in the coming years.
