Kuwait Times and Kuwait News Raise Landmark Flag, Honoring 65 Years of Journalism

Kuwaiti journalism reached a major milestone as a towering flag was raised at Kuwait Times and Kuwait News headquarters. The event marks 65 years of Kuwait Times, the nation’s first print newspaper, and 20 years of Kuwait News, the country’s first digital newspaper. The permanent flag stands 30 meters high with a 50-square-meter banner, becoming a landmark in Shuwaikh.

The flag reflects the spirit and values of Kuwaiti journalism. It reminds everyone that journalism carries responsibility and a promise to serve the nation. Abdullah Boftain, Minister of Information and Culture, said the word “Kuwait” in the newspapers’ names always symbolized a voice and commitment to the country.

The plan for the flag started in 2020 during the early rebuilding phase. Boftain explained the project required careful planning, research, and coordination. The team chose a specialized company, finalized the design, and set the budget before raising the flag. “Raising the flag shows respect for history, strengthens identity, and proves that Kuwaiti journalism remains rooted in the nation,” he said.

The flag speaks before any headline is read. Visitors and staff see a clear symbol of Kuwait’s media legacy and future vision. This landmark links past achievements with upcoming goals, showing how Kuwaiti journalism continues to grow while keeping its core values.

The flag also supports ongoing efforts to modernize both newspapers and promote national pride. It quickly became a community landmark, attracting attention from local residents and visitors. It inspires journalists to maintain high standards, honesty, and public trust.

With the new flag, Kuwait Times and Kuwait News offer a clear symbol of continuity and dedication. It celebrates the nation’s history and sets a visual reminder of the next chapter of Kuwaiti journalism. The landmark shows the country’s commitment to free, responsible, and nationally rooted media.
