Kuwait Tenders $848M Contract for 900MW Subiya Power Plant Expansion

Kuwait has officially launched the tender for the Phase IV expansion of its Subiya Power Plant.
The project aims at expanding Kuwait’s energy capacity to meet rising domestic electricity demand.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy received approval from CAPT to issue tenders.
The expansion will add 900 megawatts (MW) to the existing capacity of the Subiya station.

Authorities estimate the total project cost at 257 million Kuwaiti dinars, or around $848 million.
The project is expected to be completed within 36 months once the contract is awarded.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders set a closing date for one month after issuing the tender.

Minister Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized the importance of timely awarding and execution.
He noted the ministry’s goal of expanding Kuwait’s energy capacity in response to national needs.

The Subiya expansion aligns with Kuwait’s Vision 2035 to modernize infrastructure and ensure sustainable development.
The plant is already one of Kuwait’s largest and most vital electricity production hubs.

The dual expansions play a key role in expanding Kuwait’s energy capacity and ensuring power security.

Officials reaffirmed that robust infrastructure is central to economic diversification and long-term development.
These energy projects mark a turning point for the country’s future power supply and stability.

By expanding Kuwait’s energy capacity, authorities seek to deliver reliable, efficient, and future-ready electricity solutions.
