Kuwait And China Mark Cultural Dialogue Day

Kuwait and China celebrated cultural exchange and artistic heritage during a joint event in Kuwait City marking the International Day of Dialogue Among Civilizations.

The event, titled “Arabic and Chinese Calligraphy: Harmony of Strings and Ink,” was organized by the Kuwaiti Traditional Crafts Association in cooperation with the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait. It featured Arabic and Chinese calligraphy exhibitions, traditional music performances and displays of Kuwaiti handicrafts.

Officials from both countries said the gathering reflected growing cultural ties between Kuwait and China and highlighted the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding between civilizations.

Yang Xin, deputy head of mission at the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, said cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have expanded in recent years under the guidance of both leaderships.

He added that China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Kuwait through more cultural initiatives and artistic programs aimed at bringing traditional heritage closer to younger generations.

Representatives from Kuwait’s cultural sector also stressed the role of arts and handicrafts in preserving identity and encouraging communication between societies.

Hussein Al-Fares, vice president of the Kuwaiti Traditional Crafts Association, described handicrafts as a universal language capable of building bridges between cultures and communities.

Meanwhile, officials from Kuwait’s National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters said dialogue among civilizations has become increasingly important amid global challenges including intolerance and cultural division.

The International Day of Dialogue Among Civilizations is observed annually on June 10 following its adoption by the UN General Assembly in 2024.
