Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is set to travel to Abu Dhabi on Monday for discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on bilateral ties and regional developments.
According to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, both leaders will address relations between the UAE, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. They will also explore recent regional events and discuss various topics of mutual interest.
The Kurdistan Region and the UAE share robust economic ties, with Kurdish officials frequently visiting the UAE, especially for significant events and high-level meetings. During a previous visit to Abu Dhabi in May last year, President Barzani also met Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, reinforcing the relationship and discussing avenues to strengthen collaboration.
Fawzi Hariri, Chief of Staff at the Kurdistan Region Presidency, previously emphasized the importance of these ties, highlighting that the UAE places considerable importance on its relationship with Iraq, particularly with the Kurdistan Region. “Our relations are deep,” Hariri stated.
The UAE remains among the top economic partners of the Kurdistan Region, alongside Turkey and Iran. Emirati investors have increasingly entered the Kurdish market, with investments surpassing $2 billion, demonstrating confidence and expanding opportunities in the region.
Earlier this year, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani signed a technology cooperation agreement during a visit to Dubai. UAE Consul Ahmed al-Dhaheri indicated that this deal is part of a series of future economic and investment agreements, specifically highlighting potential projects in electricity and solar energy sectors.
