Dammam Airport Resumes Normal Operations After Attack

King Fahd Airport in Dammam has resumed normal operations following an attack that killed two people and injured eight others. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority confirmed the restoration of air traffic on Thursday, October 22.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation said airport operations had returned to normal after Wednesday evening’s incident. Meanwhile, officials continue assessing damage and checking safety arrangements for passengers, airport employees and other personnel.

The authority also confirmed the identities of the two people killed in the attack. One victim was a Saudi citizen, while the other was an Indian national living in the kingdom.

In addition, eight people suffered injuries of varying severity during the incident. The injured included one Saudi citizen and residents from India, Yemen, Bangladesh and Nepal. Authorities said medical teams were treating the victims at several hospitals across the area.

Although the airport has resumed normal operations, officials continue reviewing the incident and its consequences. The aviation authority stressed the importance of protecting travellers and employees while assessing the damage caused by the attack.

The incident has raised concerns about security at key transport facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Nevertheless, the return to normal airport operations indicates that authorities have restored regular air traffic following the disruption.

Separately, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry reported a deadly incident involving a drone targeting a processing facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field. Two people died after debris fell during the interception of the drone, while two others sustained injuries.

The ministry identified the fatalities as a Filipino national and a Nepali national. It also confirmed that the incident injured a Pakistani resident and an Indian resident.

According to the ministry, falling debris started a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the oil facility’s perimeter. However, officials said the incident did not disrupt operations at the oil field.

The distinction is significant because the attack caused casualties without interrupting the facility’s normal activities. Authorities have not reported any operational shutdown resulting from the incident.

The airport attack and the Shaybah incident occurred amid heightened security concerns across Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. However, officials have not established a direct connection between the two incidents in the available statements.

Meanwhile, the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen reported that Saudi forces had intercepted four drones over the Eastern Province early Thursday. The announcement added to security concerns following the incidents affecting the airport and oil facility.

Authorities have not provided further details about the drones’ origins or whether the interceptions directly related to either incident. Consequently, the available information does not establish who carried out the attacks.

The restoration of King Fahd Airport operations remains an important development for passengers travelling through Dammam. However, the fatalities and injuries highlight the human consequences of the recent security incidents.

Saudi authorities continue assessing damage at the airport while maintaining medical care for those injured. At Shaybah, officials reported that oil operations continued despite the deadly incident involving falling debris.

The latest developments underline the importance of protecting civilian infrastructure, transport services and energy facilities. As investigations and security assessments continue, further official updates may clarify the circumstances surrounding the incidents and the measures authorities plan to take.
