Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC) condemned the recent attacks targeting members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). The command warned that these assaults directly threaten national security and social stability.
The JOC emphasized that repeated violations, indiscriminate strikes, and failure to distinguish targets could worsen the situation. Such attacks risk undermining social peace and destabilizing the country. The statement noted that these acts have sparked widespread anger and resentment among Iraqis.
Over the past two weeks, PMF facilities in several provinces faced a series of air and drone strikes. The provinces affected include al-Anbar, Kirkuk, Babil, and Wasit. In Babil, Jurf al-Sakhr experienced the highest number of strikes during this escalation. Meanwhile, the deadliest incident occurred today in al-Anbar, where airstrikes hit three sites belonging to the PMF’s 19th Brigade (Ansar Allah al-Awfiya) in Akashat, al-Qaim district, near the Syrian border.
The strikes targeted the brigade’s medical unit, second regiment headquarters, and a logistical support facility. Reports indicate that the attacks left more than 120 casualties. Security experts warn that such incidents not only harm PMF personnel but also destabilize local communities. They stress that attacks on the PMF compromise Iraq’s overall security framework.
The JOC reaffirmed that the attackers bear full responsibility for the consequences. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local security forces to prevent further escalation.
These repeated assaults on the PMF signal a dangerous trend in the region. The JOC urged all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue to restore calm. Officials continue working to strengthen national security and protect social cohesion amid the ongoing threats.
Attacks on the PMF have become a critical concern, as they directly affect Iraq’s stability. Experts note that safeguarding these forces is essential to maintaining peace and order in the country.
