Iraqi Oil Minister Arrives in Kirkuk

Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani arrived in Kirkuk to advance the oil agenda in Kirkuk. He was welcomed at Kirkuk International Airport by local officials, including Governor Rêbwar Taha.

The visit focused on multiple key projects. One major stop was the opening of the Shidar Oil Station. This facility separates water from crude oil. It aims to increase efficiency at local production sites.

The minister also held talks with officials from British energy company BP. The company continues to develop oil fields in Kirkuk. Their cooperation supports Iraq’s broader energy goals.

Later, the minister inaugurated the Berhem Refinery in the Kor Kejal area. The new refinery boosts refining capacity in the region. He also opened a new administrative building inside the North Oil Company.

This visit came soon after an important announcement. On August 1, 2024, Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding with BP. The agreement focuses on the oil agenda in Kirkuk, particularly the modernization of major oil fields.

These include the Kirkuk field’s Baba and Avana domes, plus Bai Hassan, Jambur, and Khabbaz. The deal also opens the door to future exploration.

Each of these steps reflects Iraq’s commitment to the oil agenda in Kirkuk. The region is central to the country’s long-term oil strategy. Investments tied to the oil agenda in Kirkuk aim to increase output and attract international partners.
