Iraqi Leaders and Armed Groups Pledge Support to Mojtaba Khamenei

Iraqi leaders and armed groups have welcomed Mojtaba Khamenei following his appointment as Iran’s new supreme leader. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani congratulated him and offered condolences for the loss of Ali Khamenei. The Iraqi premier stressed Iraq’s solidarity with Iran during this sensitive political transition.

In a statement on X, Sudani extended blessings to Mojtaba Khamenei. He expressed confidence in the new leader’s ability to unify the Iranian people. He also reiterated support for measures that preserve regional stability and reject violations of Iran’s sovereignty. Iran’s Assembly of Experts called on the public to pledge allegiance and maintain unity around the leadership.

Iraqi armed factions aligned with the Iran-led ‘Axis of Resistance’ also voiced support for Mojtaba Khamenei. Qais al-Khazali, leader of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, said the appointment continues the defense of the Ummah and support for the oppressed. Akram al-Kaabi of Hezbollah al-Nujaba pledged loyalty on behalf of Axis of Resistance fighters. He vowed to continue the policies of Ali Khamenei.

Leaders of other Iraqi factions, including Abu Ala al-Walai of Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada and Jaafar al-Husseini of Kata’ib Hezbollah, reaffirmed allegiance. They stressed that the path established by Ali Khamenei would continue. They emphasized the ideological foundation of Wilayat al-Faqih. This doctrine grants supreme authority to the most qualified Islamic jurist. Mojtaba Khamenei now holds both the highest political and religious leadership under this principle.

The appointment drew criticism from US officials. Former President Donald Trump called it “a big mistake” and warned of potential instability. Despite these concerns, Mojtaba Khamenei’s selection solidified backing from Iraq. It highlights close political and ideological ties with Tehran. Analysts note that these pledges from Iraqi factions may influence regional dynamics and security in Iraq and Iran.

In conclusion, Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment has received mixed reactions. Iraqi leaders and allied armed groups continue to express strong backing. Their support underscores the strategic and ideological significance of the new Iranian leadership for Iraq.
