Iraq Shares Regional Vision with Dutch Government

“Iraq Shares Regional Vision”—this phrase captured the core of a high-level diplomatic exchange in The Hague on Thursday. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, met with Dutch Foreign Minister, Caspar Veldkamp. During this key meeting, Hussein outlined Iraq’s views on regional developments and its approach to neighboring countries.

At the start of the meeting, Minister Veldkamp warmly welcomed Hussein and his delegation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Baghdad and The Hague. Both leaders agreed that active diplomacy remains essential for regional stability.

Minister Hussein presented a detailed analysis of Iraq’s stance on current Middle East affairs. He also discussed Iraq’s diplomatic strategies concerning neighboring states. Throughout the discussion, both sides acknowledged shared concerns over regional security challenges.

In addition, the ministers explored ways to deepen cooperation between Iraq and the Netherlands. They discussed expanding political consultations and increasing mutual visits. Hussein extended an official invitation to his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq soon. Minister Veldkamp responded positively and expressed interest in arranging the trip in the near future.

Fuad Hussein expressed satisfaction with the growing partnership between the two nations. He praised the Netherlands for leading NATO’s mission in Iraq. That mission, set to conclude in May, has contributed to security efforts within the country.

“Iraq Shares Regional Vision” also includes cooperation beyond security. The ministers reviewed the work of the Joint High Committee on Agriculture and Water. They stressed the need for regular meetings. Both sides highlighted the importance of Dutch expertise in managing water resources and improving agriculture.

On Arab affairs, Hussein noted the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled to take place in Baghdad. He affirmed Iraq’s commitment to ensuring its success amid shifting regional dynamics.

Finally, both leaders agreed on maintaining strong communication and joint coordination moving forward. With shared priorities and open dialogue, “Iraq Shares Regional Vision” continues to shape foreign policy and regional partnerships.
