Iraq-Oman Relations Gain New Momentum

Iraq-Oman relations are entering a new phase of cooperation and trust. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has received an official message from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, delivered by Omani Ambassador Mahmoud bin Mahna al-Kharousi.

While the letter’s content was not disclosed, officials confirmed it was addressed to Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid. The message further signals the strong political bond forming between Iraq and Oman.

Minister Hussein highlighted Baghdad’s commitment to expanding ties with Muscat. He expressed Iraq’s readiness to strengthen cooperation in politics, trade, and cultural exchange. Hussein also thanked Sultan Haitham for the warm welcome he received during his recent visit to Oman.

That visit aimed to build stronger diplomatic and economic partnerships. It demonstrated how seriously Iraq views its relationship with Oman. The minister praised Oman’s efforts to support regional dialogue and encourage Arab cooperation.

Iraq-Oman relations have grown steadily in recent years. Both countries signed several key agreements to increase coordination. Those agreements include visa-free travel and investment opportunities. These steps show a shared interest in boosting trade and integration.

Bilateral trade reached over $600 million last year. That figure reflects real progress and growing trust between the two governments. Economic momentum now backs diplomatic efforts, giving the relationship a well-rounded foundation.

Oman has long acted as a trusted regional mediator. Its role in sensitive discussions, including the Iranian nuclear issue, makes it a respected voice in the Middle East. Iraq recognizes this value and is eager to work more closely with Muscat.

Hussein’s statements also emphasized the importance of long-term engagement. He called for continued collaboration between the two nations on all levels.

With growing trade, new agreements, and active diplomacy, Iraq-Oman relations are moving toward a strategic partnership. This relationship stands as an example of how cooperation can bring lasting benefits in a complex region.
