Iraq officially invited Saudi Arabia to attend the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad, scheduled for May 17.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein delivered the invitation during a visit to Riyadh on Sunday. He met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and conveyed the invitation from President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid.
Both sides reaffirmed their strong bilateral relations and expressed shared goals for expanding cooperation across all fields.
During the meeting, Hussein emphasized the importance of facing regional challenges together. He stressed that Iraq-Saudi coordination could strengthen Arab and international efforts.
He also spoke about the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, stating that success could unlock regional progress. However, failure might bring dangerous consequences.
On the topic of Syria, both ministers shared concern over repeated Israeli strikes and growing instability. They agreed that Syria’s unrest threatens the entire region.
They further discussed energy cooperation. Both emphasized the need for alignment within OPEC and OPEC+ to ensure market stability.
Hussein confirmed Iraq’s readiness to host the Arab Summit in Baghdad, highlighting the country’s current political and security stability.
He also called for deeper economic integration among Arab nations, noting its value for long-term regional growth.
Prince Farhan praised Iraq’s progress and pledged Saudi Arabia’s support for the Arab Summit in Baghdad, calling it crucial at this moment.
He underlined that strong ties with Iraq are essential for regional peace and prosperity.
