Iraq Boosts Oil Production: IDC Drills and Reclaims 237 Wells in 2025

Iraq’s oil industry reached a major milestone in 2025 as the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) drilled and reclaimed 237 oil wells, strengthening the country’s oil production capacity. This achievement shows Iraq’s commitment to growing its energy sector and supporting national output goals.

IDC drilled 62 new wells and reclaimed 175 older ones across different provinces. All work followed strict safety rules and technical standards. Engineering and technical teams worked closely with both national and international oil companies to complete the operations efficiently.

The program helps Iraq improve operations and maintain long-term production plans. IDC also plans to continue improving its technical skills while supporting the Ministry of Oil’s long-term goals. These efforts are important for keeping Iraq a leading energy producer in the region.

In the first half of 2024, IDC drilled 33 new wells and reclaimed 72 older wells. These ongoing projects show a clear and systematic approach to increasing oil output while following safety and quality standards. Experts note that consistent drilling and reclamation are crucial for maintaining Iraq’s oil production capacity and meeting both local and international demand.

The government includes these efforts in a broader five-year plan to boost national energy resources. The plan focuses on sustainable production, workforce training, as well as technical innovation. IDC’s work in 2025 aligns perfectly with this plan, showing progress toward a more efficient energy sector.

These projects also create jobs and encourage collaboration with international partners. By improving technical skills and operations, Iraq strengthens its position in the global oil market. Officials highlight the importance of ongoing maintenance and reclamation programs to maximize output from existing wells.

Looking ahead, IDC plans to expand drilling and reclaim more old wells. Its focus on increasing oil production capacity ensures Iraq can meet future domestic and international needs. Combining new drilling with reclamation efforts creates a balanced and sustainable approach to energy growth while minimizing risks.

Through strategic investments in oil infrastructure, skilled staff, and international cooperation, Iraq’s oil industry is on a strong path. The 2025 drilling and reclamation program represents a significant step in improving Iraq’s oil production capacity for the years ahead.
