The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has approved the implementation of Phase Two by the State of Qatar for the management of the Doha Flight Information Region/Upper Information Region (FIR/UIR) and the Search and Rescue Region (SRR). This follows the successful completion of Phase One, in which Qatar met all safety and security requirements.
Phase Two, which involves managing air traffic over international waters, is a crucial milestone in advancing airspace modernization. It applies to vertical limits extending from sea level to unlimited altitude.
By standardizing these altitude limits, the phase aims to enhance safety, protect the environment, and improve operational efficiency. This will benefit both national and regional aviation sectors.
This step also brings numerous operational and environmental benefits, such as reduced fuel consumption and emissions, increased airspace capacity, and improved flight flexibility. Additionally, it will strengthen safety measures, improve regional and international air connectivity, and reinforce Doha’s position as a prominent global aviation hub. This will support more efficient airline operations.
