HMC Launches Clinical Study to Find Effective Treatments for Shisha Smoking Cessation

Hamad Medical Corporation’s Tobacco Control Center, a WHO Collaborating Center, has launched the first clinical study of its kind in Qatar. The study aims to combat rising rates of shisha smoking in the region.

In collaboration with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council, the study aims to identify the most effective methods to help individuals quit shisha smoking. This initiative supports Qatar’s broader efforts to prevent tobacco use and promote healthier lifestyles.

According to a 2019 survey by the Tobacco Control Center, 25.2 percent of adults in Qatar use tobacco products. Shisha is the second most common form at 8.3 percent. These findings highlighted the urgent need for targeted clinical interventions to address the growing health concern.
