Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has strengthened its role in trauma care education through a key collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The “trauma care training program” successfully completed its third edition at HMC’s Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center from February 3 to 6, 2025.
The “trauma care training program” featured three specialized courses: the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC), the Definitive Anesthetic Trauma Care (DATC), and the Definitive Perioperative Nurses Trauma Care (DpNTC). These programs aimed to enhance skills in trauma management for surgeons, anesthesiologists, anesthesia technicians, intensivists, and trauma nurses.
A total of 44 participants from diverse professional backgrounds attended the sessions. The group included healthcare professionals from the Qatar Red Crescent, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO). Additionally, participants from disaster-affected areas worldwide attended. Participants praised the program for its hands-on learning, expert guidance, and interactive approach.
Leading specialists from HMC’s trauma, orthopedic, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery departments conducted the training. Faculty members from Sidra Medicine also contributed expertise in pediatric surgery. International professors joined to offer insights into global best practices, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
During the opening session, Prof. Dr. Ruben Peralta, Director of Advanced Trauma Education at HMC, and Prof. Dr. Sandro Rizoli, Trauma Medical Director at Hamad Trauma Center, welcomed attendees. They encouraged participants to engage actively. Moreover, they urged them to share knowledge and tackle real-world trauma care challenges together.
“These courses strengthen trauma care capabilities worldwide. By working together, healthcare professionals improve patient outcomes and save lives,” said Dr. Peralta.
