Governor of Northern Bahrain Discusses Health Initiatives with WHO Representative

The Governor of Northern Bahrain, Ali Abdulhussain Al Asfoor, welcomed Dr. Asad Hafeez, Acting WHO Representative in Bahrain, for a crucial meeting today. During their discussion, the Governor emphasized the strong partnership between Bahrain and the World Health Organization (WHO). He highlighted the ongoing cooperation in the Healthy Cities Program, which aims to improve health across Bahrain.

The Governor proudly pointed out the successful Aali accreditation as a Healthy City. He also mentioned the efforts to extend this success by accrediting the Northern Governorate as a Healthy Governorate. This initiative aligns with Bahrain’s health slogan, “Health for All, By All.” These efforts are part of a larger plan to enhance the overall health and well-being of the region.

In addition to the Healthy Governorate initiative, the Governor reviewed the numerous health projects launched in the Northern Governorate. Notably, the Governorate has organized nine editions of the Biggest Winner Competition, aimed at fighting obesity and smoking. Another key initiative was the mosquito control campaign, which spanned the entire Governorate. These programs show the commitment to raising health awareness among the community and encouraging preventive health measures.

The Governor also discussed the importance of strengthening community partnerships in health and awareness-raising fields. These collaborations will play a pivotal role in achieving Bahrain’s long-term health goals. By focusing on community engagement, the Northern Governorate is setting a strong example for other regions in Bahrain.

In response, Dr. Asad Hafeez expressed his appreciation for the Governor’s hospitality. He commended the Governorate’s ongoing support for health initiatives and expressed the WHO’s commitment to continuing this collaboration. Dr. Hafeez emphasized that the WHO is eager to support future health events and contribute to the Northern Governorate’s efforts. He reaffirmed the WHO’s role in enhancing sustainable development goals and improving community health and quality of life in Bahrain.
