Gender Equality Certification: Dubai Municipality Achieves Global Recognition

Dubai Municipality has achieved global recognition through its Gender Equality Certification. Consequently, this milestone marks the first time any entity worldwide receives this honor. Moreover, the certification, awarded by Global TUV, validates the municipality’s compliance with ISO 53800 standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The announcement coincides with Emirati Women’s Day on August 28, further underlining the UAE’s continued commitment to inclusivity and equality.

Furthermore, this achievement matches the UAE’s announcement of 2024 as the Year of Community. Authorities also stressed that fairness, equal opportunity, and social inclusion are key to the nation’s growth. Through this certification, Dubai Municipality strengthens its reputation as a leader in using modern human resources and governance practices.

Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the recognition shows the organization’s strong commitment to gender equality. He added that the award highlights Dubai’s leadership in supporting women in both government and society. In addition, Bin Ghalita explained that the municipality helps women achieve important goals that follow the UAE National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023–2031.

Additionally, Nasser BuShehab, CEO of the Planning and Governance Sector, emphasized that the Gender Equality Certification fosters an inclusive and fair workplace. He noted that employees benefit from career development opportunities without discrimination. Moreover, BuShehab added that ensuring work-life balance strengthens the municipality’s positive organizational culture.

Moreover, Azza Al Marzooqi, Director of the Human Resources Department, confirmed that the certification enhances employee satisfaction and productivity. She stated that happier employees directly improve public service quality for Dubai residents. In addition, the recognition also positions the municipality as a competitive employer, attracting top talent and encouraging innovation.

The UAE has achieved remarkable progress in gender equality, ranking 7th globally and first in the Arab region on the UNDP Gender Inequality Index 2024. This rise demonstrates the nation’s dedication to women’s empowerment and inclusivity. Therefore, Dubai Municipality’s recognition further exemplifies how government entities can embed equality in institutional culture.

In conclusion, the Gender Equality Certification reinforces Dubai Municipality’s commitment to empowerment, inclusivity, and leadership in human resources policies. Overall, the achievement inspires other organizations to adopt similar practices and strengthens the UAE’s global reputation in gender equality.
