Travel across the Gulf is seeing a remarkable GCC travel surge, with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman leading growth. Airport usage data from Dragonpass highlights rising demand in leisure and business travel. Passenger trends show increasing demand for convenience, connectivity, and premium services.
Saudi Arabia recorded a 36 percent increase in travel volumes this summer. June marked the country’s highest month on record. Growing airport capacity and Vision 2030 encouraged more domestic and international travel.
Meanwhile, Bahrain experienced a 208 percent year-on-year rise, the strongest among GCC markets. The kingdom strengthened its role as a regional connector. Tourism investment and rising international traffic contributed to this growth. Dragonpass data shows Bahrain recorded the highest lounge usage globally at 1.35 percent, ahead of Heathrow and Hong Kong.
Qatar followed with a 198.9 percent rise, supported by new routes and international events. Oman recorded an 89.2 percent increase, peaking in August due to heritage tourism and Muscat International connectivity. These countries illustrate the Gulf’s expanding role in global travel.
The UAE saw a 21 percent decline over the summer. Dragonpass attributed this to seasonal shifts and growing competition from neighboring markets. Despite the drop, the UAE remains the region’s largest aviation hub.
Dragonpass also noted changing traveler habits. Premium lounge access is increasingly popular. Saudi Arabia ranked second in lounge usage at 0.86 percent, followed by the UAE, Oman, and Qatar. Dragonpass continues expanding regional partnerships to meet rising expectations. Their network supports over 40 million users with lounges, fast-track lanes, and dining benefits.
Analysts expect the GCC travel surge to continue. Investments in airport infrastructure, new routes, and tourism initiatives are driving growth. Passengers benefit from more efficient, connected, and comfortable travel experiences. The Gulf is steadily emerging as a key hub for regional and international travelers.
