Five Bangladeshi expatriates have been killed in a road traffic accident in the Al-Shahaniya area of Qatar, according to local media reports.
The victims, originally from the Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet, were travelling on Shamal Road when the incident occurred on Sunday morning, local officials said.
They have been identified as residents of several villages in the South Bani Union area, according to reports quoting family members.
Local police officials said the accident took place at around 10:30 am local time. The circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been fully clarified.
The incident has reportedly caused widespread grief among the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Qatar, as well as among families and relatives in Bangladesh’s Sylhet region.
Authorities are expected to carry out further investigations into the cause of the crash.
