Fertility Care Excellence Recognised in Abu Dhabi

Fertility care excellence is at the heart of a new initiative launched by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH). The programme, part of the Rewarding Exceptional Quality strategy, aims to elevate care standards across the emirate.

To begin with, this latest move will start with a concentrated focus on fertility services. Over time, the programme will expand to other clinical areas. Moreover, the initiative rewards healthcare providers who achieve high-quality outcomes and prioritise patient safety and experience.

According to the DoH, it will assess healthcare facilities based on specific performance indicators. These include success rates, safety practices, and patient satisfaction. In turn, providers meeting or exceeding benchmarks will become eligible for financial rewards.

Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH – Abu Dhabi, explained the department’s vision. She stated that the goal is to set new benchmarks for safe, effective, and people-focused care. Furthermore, she also noted that the first phase will concentrate on fertility care excellence due to its growing public health relevance.

Abu Dhabi has become a key centre for fertility services. In 2025, the emirate recorded an IVF success rate exceeding 51 per cent. Notably, that figure ranks among the highest in the world. In 2024 alone, more than 6,180 IVF cycles were completed.

Currently, the emirate hosts 14 advanced fertility centres and a robust women’s health infrastructure. This includes 2,800 professionals in obstetrics and gynaecology, with 700 consultants and specialists. Additionally, there are also 375 midwives and 45 dedicated women’s health facilities.

Importantly, the programme represents a shift toward value-based care. Instead of focusing on treatment quantity, it prioritises outcomes and quality. The DoH expects this shift will encourage providers to align services with patient needs and long-term results.

Fertility care excellence is the starting point for this model. However, the programme will soon cover other clinical areas. As a result, future phases aim to raise the quality of healthcare delivery throughout the entire system.

Ultimately, this approach strengthens Abu Dhabi’s status as a global leader in healthcare innovation. The DoH continues to push for systems that reward excellence, ensure patient-first services, and support national healthcare goals.
