Etihad Rail has launched its first Dubai to Abu Dhabi passenger service, opening a new chapter in UAE transportation. The inaugural train departed Al Yalayis Station in Dubai at 6:14am Wednesday. It then travelled toward Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, completing the first inter-emirate journey. The service later returned to Dubai, completing another journey between the two cities. Passengers received commemorative gifts and traditional hospitality during the historic first services.
The launch attracted residents, visitors and families who wanted to experience the new passenger railway connection. At Al Yalayis Station, passengers received a warm welcome with music, performances and launch activities. Staff also distributed commemorative coins and personalised luggage tags to mark the occasion. Meanwhile, passengers onboard received Arabic coffee, dates and specially prepared chocolates during the journey. The onboard experience combined local hospitality with modern rail travel and comfortable seating.
The first Dubai-bound train reached Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station after departing Dubai early Wednesday morning. The return service later departed Abu Dhabi at 7:43am and reached Al Yalayis Station at 8:47am. This completed the return journey in slightly more than one hour, according to the reported timings. The service provides another transportation option for people travelling regularly between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It also offers an alternative to driving along the busy road connection between the emirates.
Several passengers highlighted the train’s comfort, smooth ride and convenience after completing their journeys. Some travellers said the experience could encourage them to reduce their dependence on private cars. The family said the earlier experience encouraged them to return for the new route. Other passengers travelled specifically because they wanted to experience the first journey.
