Combating Trademark Infringement: MoCI Leads Workshop to Protect Intellectual Property

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) recently stepped up its role in combating trademark infringement by hosting a specialized workshop on June 18, 2025. The event focused on raising awareness about intellectual property rights. It also equipped participants with practical skills to identify counterfeit goods. Consequently, MoCI aims to reinforce Qatar’s fight against trademark violations and protect the local market.

In cooperation with the Brand Owners’ Protection Group (Gulf BPG), the workshop took place at MoCI’s headquarters in Lusail City. It offered hands-on training for government officials and law enforcement agents to recognize subtle differences between authentic and fake trademarks. This kind of targeted education is therefore critical in combating trademark infringement effectively and protecting consumers.

The workshop brought together key personnel from MoCI’s Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department and the Consumer Protection and Commercial Fraud Department. Additionally, representatives from the Ministry of Interior’s Economic and Cyber Crimes Unit and the General Authority of Customs participated as well. This broad collaboration underscores the importance of unified action in combating trademark infringement across various government bodies.

Throughout the sessions, experts shared proven techniques used by international brand owners and enforcement agencies. These techniques help detect counterfeit products. They also discussed the latest technologies and tools that help inspectors swiftly identify fake goods at points of sale and customs checkpoints. These advancements thus enhance the overall capacity of authorities to protect trademarks.

Moreover, MoCI highlighted that combating trademark infringement requires ongoing coordination between the public and private sectors. The Ministry also encouraged regular training updates to keep inspectors prepared against emerging counterfeit methods. Furthermore, strengthening partnerships with brand owners remains a top priority.

In summary, this workshop marks a vital step toward securing Qatar’s commercial environment. MoCI remains dedicated to promoting intellectual property rights and ensuring consumer safety. It does this by consistently enhancing efforts in combating trademark infringement throughout the country.
