Christian Skoog Begins Term as UNICEF Representative in Iraq

Christian Skoog has officially taken office as the new UNICEF Representative in Iraq, starting a key chapter for children’s rights in the country. He presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein during a meeting in Baghdad.

In his first statement, Skoog said it was an honor to join UNICEF Iraq. As the representative, he underlined his mission to support children and youth nationwide. He also expressed his goal to work with the Government of Iraq, UN teams, and local civil society.

As the UNICEF Representative in Iraq, he will focus on ensuring every child has access to basic rights. He aims to improve education, healthcare, protection, and nutrition services. His top priority is reaching the most vulnerable children in all regions across Iraq.

Skoog also stressed that UNICEF will continue to support Iraq in applying the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The representative’s role includes helping design policies that protect children and prepare them for a better future.

Moreover, the UNICEF Representative in Iraq plans to expand programs that address child poverty and social inequality. He believes strong partnerships will make a lasting difference in the lives of children.

With years of global experience in child protection, Skoog brings new energy to the work of Iraq’s UNICEF representative. He believes change requires teamwork between governments, international partners, and communities.

UNICEF’s mission remains clear: help every child survive, thrive, and grow in safety. Under Skoog’s leadership, that mission will continue with new focus and commitment, embodied by the representative in Iraq.
