Bahrain’s Shura Council Approves New Medical Liability Law

The Shura Council of Bahrain has approved an amended medical liability law during its 22nd session on Sunday. His Excellency Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Speaker of the Shura Council, presided over the meeting. The council discussed several key legislative matters, including real estate regulations, children’s protection laws, and international agreements.

Key Legislative Discussions

The session began with the approval of the previous meeting’s minutes. The council then acknowledged the successful launch of the “Al Munther” satellite, which took place on March 15, 2025. Following this, members reviewed letters from the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam. These letters covered proposed amendments to Bahrain’s real estate registration law and restorative justice laws for children.

The council also received the audited financial statements for the previous fiscal year. These financial records were referred to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee for further analysis. Additionally, members reviewed questions addressed to ministers regarding public projects and safety concerns. One of the topics included measures to increase awareness among delivery bike drivers.

Medical Liability Law Gains Approval

One of the session’s major topics was the approval of the amended medical liability law. The law aims to strengthen the health sector by clearly defining responsibilities in medical practice. It establishes a Supreme Committee for Medical Liability and regulates civil liability insurance for medical errors. The updated law seeks to boost investment in healthcare while providing a clear legal framework for medical professionals.

According to Dr. Ibtisam Mohammed Saleh Al-Dallal, the proposed law enhances confidence in Bahrain’s healthcare system. With a well-defined structure, investors can assess risks better and contribute to the country’s growing health sector. The law is also expected to support medical tourism, aligning with Bahrain’s tourism strategy.

Strengthening Bahrain’s Global Position

The council also discussed international agreements, including one with Kuwait on maritime navigation and another with Hungary on investment protection. These agreements are set to enhance Bahrain’s trade relations and economic stability. The maritime deal with Kuwait aims to improve port operations and facilitate cargo transport. This agreement will encourage regional investments and foster stronger trade ties between the two nations.

The medical liability law marks a significant step toward improving healthcare services in Bahrain. By modernizing the legal framework, the country aims to provide a safe and reliable environment for both patients and medical practitioners. With these advancements, Bahrain continues to strengthen its healthcare sector while positioning itself as a medical tourism destination.

The newly approved law reflects Bahrain’s commitment to ensuring medical accountability. By establishing a transparent and structured healthcare system, Bahrain is taking proactive steps toward a better future. The new law reinforces trust, enhances patient safety, and attracts investment in the medical sector.
