Bahrain’s national under-16 tennis team player, Ahmed Al-Sayed, earned second place in the boys’ singles at the Asian Tennis Federation Championship. The event, which concluded yesterday at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts, marked another success for Bahraini tennis. Al-Sayed’s impressive performance continues a series of strong results, starting with the Asian Championship in Dubai, followed by the Gulf Championship in Kuwait.
Indian player Horsh Patel claimed the championship title after defeating Al-Sayed in the final. Patel won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Despite the loss, Al-Sayed received the second-place medal, solidifying his standing in regional tennis.
In the girls’ singles, Hong Kong’s Som Lam defeated her fellow countrywoman, Lara Rauti, with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Lam’s victory capped a dominant performance throughout the tournament.
The boys’ doubles competition also saw fierce competition. Bahraini player Talal Al-Sayed and Indian partner Horsh Patel claimed the top spot. They defeated Bahraini duo Ahmed Al-Sayed and Reda Hassan, winning 6-2, 7-6.
In the girls’ doubles final, Lam and Rauti secured another victory for Hong Kong. They defeated Egyptian Fatma Al-Sabri and Indian Ahana Das with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 score.
At the awards ceremony, Fouad Al-Ruwaie, the general secretary, and Ahmed Al-Hajj, the general referee, presented the medals. They awarded the first- and second-place winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
The tournament showcased the region’s tennis talent, with players from Bahrain, India, Hong Kong, and Egypt competing fiercely. Ahmed Al-Sayed’s strong showing, both in the singles and doubles competitions, highlights his rising potential. His runner-up finish in the singles event serves as an inspiration for other Bahraini players to continue pursuing excellence in tennis.
