Bahrain Hosts Data Cosmos Hackathon to Advance Space Innovation

In a major step toward promoting space innovation in Bahrain, the Bahrain Space Agency held the Data Cosmos Hackathon. The event took place at Bahrain Polytechnic in collaboration with the UK-based company Open Cosmos.

Seventeen teams from various academic and business backgrounds participated. Over seventy students and entrepreneurs joined this exciting initiative. Their mission was to create smart solutions using satellite data and artificial intelligence.

The hackathon focused on solving environmental sustainability challenges. Participants used cutting-edge tools to turn complex data into innovative solutions. This effort supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Moreover, space innovation in Bahrain is gaining momentum through such scientific events. These programs encourage creativity, foster collaboration, and build technical capabilities. As a result, young Bahrainis are developing tools to assist national decision-makers.

Dr. Mohamed Al-Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, praised the turnout and enthusiasm. He stated that the hackathon increased public awareness of space applications. He also highlighted its alignment with Bahrain’s vision to lead in space exploration.

In addition, the event offers long-term benefits to the economy. It supports the creation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the space sector. These ventures could boost national income and create high-quality jobs.

Dr. Al-Aseeri thanked Bahrain Polytechnic and Open Cosmos for their strong support. Their efforts helped ensure the hackathon achieved its full potential. This collaboration shows how public and private sectors can drive meaningful progress.

Professor Kiran Okan, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, stressed the importance of such events. He said they enhance students’ research skills and prepare them for future scientific careers. These experiences also improve teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Furthermore, space innovation in Bahrain can now grow faster through digital transformation. Alberto Pérez Casinelli of Open Cosmos emphasized using space technology to address global issues. He underscored the value of AI in improving productivity and sustainability.

Clearly, this event marked a major milestone. Space innovation in Bahrain is no longer a vision—it’s happening now.
