Bahrain Applauds New Press and Media Law Strengthening Freedom of Expression

Bahrain marked a major step forward in media development with the ratification of the Press and Electronic Media Law. The new legislation strengthens freedom of expression and supports modern journalism across traditional and digital platforms. It also reflects Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to progress and open communication.

Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, congratulated Issa Al-Shayji, President of the Bahraini Journalists Association. He emphasized that the new law demonstrates the leadership’s clear vision for a more dynamic and transparent media sector.

He noted that the law was shaped through active cooperation between the legislative and executive branches. Both sides worked closely to build a balanced and practical framework for journalists and media organizations. This spirit of collaboration highlights Bahrain’s dedication to innovation and freedom of expression.

Al-Saleh also recognized the essential role of media professionals in shaping public understanding. He said journalists continue to strengthen national unity, promote truth, and protect social harmony through responsible reporting.

Furthermore, he praised the commitment of reporters, editors, and media workers to professional ethics. Their consistent effort, he added, ensures accuracy, honesty, and transparency in every story shared with the public.

The new Press and Electronic Media Law introduces stronger measures for digital platforms. It protects journalists’ rights, encourages fair competition, and promotes ethical communication practices. These updates ensure Bahrain’s media keeps pace with rapid technological changes.

In addition, the law promotes creativity and accountability across all forms of media. It supports innovative storytelling while maintaining the highest standards of credibility. By fostering professional growth, Bahrain continues to nurture a vibrant media landscape that values freedom of expression.

As the country moves forward, this new legislation confirms its belief in open dialogue and transparency. Bahrain’s focus on truth, progress, and shared understanding will continue to guide its national media strategy for years to come.
