Bahrain Advances Meteorological System with Satellite Technology

Bahrain is enhancing its meteorological system by installing third-generation satellite technology. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, aims to improve weather forecasting accuracy. The new technology will help increase the security of air and maritime navigation while benefiting vital sectors.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasized the importance of this new development. He noted that Bahrain is now the second country in the Arabian Gulf to adopt this advanced satellite system. This system allows Bahrain to tackle climate challenges with better precision and effectiveness.

The Meteorological Directorate has installed advanced satellite image and data receivers to support the updated meteorological system. With this upgrade, Bahrain can provide more accurate weather forecasts and real-time data. The new satellites will enhance Bahrain’s ability to capture high-resolution images and analyze weather conditions with remarkable accuracy.

Mr. Khalid Hussein Yassin, Director of the Meteorology Department, explained that the new system can update data every 15 minutes. It provides images with an accuracy of 0.5 kilometers, helping Bahrain improve its early warning systems. These advancements are crucial for predicting severe weather conditions like dust storms and fog, which can impact public safety and infrastructure.

In addition, the Meteorology Department has started receiving satellite data from other regions, including the Atlantic Ocean and Asia-Pacific. This extra coverage ensures Bahrain can respond more effectively to weather changes, supporting air and maritime safety.

This project reflects Bahrain’s commitment to developing its meteorological system as part of its broader infrastructure modernization. It aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which focuses on technological advancement and economic diversification.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s investment in third-generation satellite technology strengthens its meteorological system and enhances its ability to manage climate challenges. The Kingdom is now better equipped to ensure public safety and respond to weather events with precision.
